Waiting rooms are hard because kids have limited movement, unclear timing, and very little control. A good screen-free activity gives them a small job to do with their eyes, hands, or imagination.

Pack a three-page waiting kit

• A picture hunt page: find shapes, colors, letters, and textures.
• A tiny drawing prompt: draw the room as a map, a robot, or a restaurant.
• A calm reset page: circle a feeling, choose a breath, and draw one thing you notice.

Use short prompts

Try "find three blue things," "draw the chair from above," or "invent a machine that makes waiting faster." The goal is not to entertain forever. It is to bridge the hardest few minutes without reaching for a tablet.
